Animation

“Big Bang”

This is a stop-motion animation I made in 2019 with my wife Niki Haynes, as a part of her Culture Consumed gallery show. The small paper cutouts are all moved one frame at a time, to create the appearance of objects clustering in space.

Soundtrack is excerpted from Brian Eno’s “In Dark Trees”, from the 1975 album “Another Green World”

“Flocked”

This CG short was  also created for the Culture Consumed show in 2019. I used Blender to create it, and I was amazed to find that the animation tools for creating this flocking behavior were developed by Craig Reynolds in 1987, while we worked together at Symbolics, a now-defunct hardware and software company. It’s hard to imagine that any animation software developed almost 40 years ago could still be in use today. Quite a testament to Craig’s foresight and brilliance, and a suitable companion to Brian Eno’s timeless music from 12 years earlier.
