“Song Bird” is a painting based on a Polaroid print that was left behind in a building we used to own, which had previously been a Knights of Columbus hall. This photo features one of the more colorful characters who visited the bar there. It’s painted with lettering enamels on a board that was reclaimed from the same building. This is one of the first paintings in which I thinned out the enamel to create tonal gradations and washes of color. I was very happy with the result and continue to use that technique, in combination with the full-strength enamel.
